Recently I came across this video about Dwayne Mcduffie. He was an American comic book and television writer. The video goes through his extensive work history in the industry. But what I found more impressive than his lengthy resume, even though that itself is impressive was how he dedicated his career to creating strong black characters in comics. One of his most popular characters is Static Shock. Not only that but he brought already established black characters to the forefront. For instance, it was his decision to use Green Lantern John Stewart instead of his white counterpart Hal Jordon in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited cartoons. The more that I learned about him the more inspired I became. Growing up my comic book heroes were always Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Once I got a little older, I added comic book artist Jim Lee to the list. Well, Dwayne Mcduffie is the newest addition to that list. I hope I can make even a sliver of the impact that he did.
